There is currently a legal trend holding physicians responsible for over-prescribing medications and actually getting patients “hooked” (addicted) on narcotic pain killers.
Too many doctors, who are not pharmacists and fail to coordinate prescribing medicine with all of the patient’s care team, are inadvertently over-medicating patients and fueling forming habits. Doctors need to be on high alert for “medication seeking behavior” and check with a patient’s primary pharmacy to see and verify what drugs and prescriptions have been written for a particular patient.
